Pine Rock Cultivation is more than just a cannabis company—it’s a passion rooted in experience, dedication, and a deep respect for the plant. Founded by Alex Lietz in 2023, the company draws inspiration from the rugged beauty of the Green Mountains and the belief that great cannabis starts with great care.

Alex’s journey with cannabis cultivation began in Michigan in 2006, growing for himself before stepping into the legal medical market in 2008 as a caregiver. For over a decade, he cultivated cannabis for patients, prioritizing quality and care over profit. When Michigan legalized recreational cannabis in 2018, caregivers were initially encouraged to help establish the market. However, high application fees, restrictive city opt-in laws, and corporate takeovers ultimately pushed small cultivators out. By February 2023, Alex was forced to cease operations, leave behind his patients, family, and friends, and move to Brighton in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom—bringing only his belongings and his two dogs, Mary Jane and Blotter.

What began as a last-ditch effort to continue working with the plant turned into a fresh start. Vermont welcomed Alex with open arms. A chance conversation with an HVAC installer led to an introduction to the Vermont Cannabis Care Network (VCCN) and Highly Rooted, connecting him with like-minded cultivators and advocates, giving him a brand new start.

Now, Pine Rock Cultivation thrives in a community that values hard work, independent businesses, and the power of cannabis. Beyond running his business, Alex embraces everything the Northeast Kingdom has to offer—hiking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, camping, caring for his animals, and, of course, spending time with his beloved dogs out in the woods.
